Jinnie & Andrew: Nant Gwrtheyrn Wedding

Jinnie & Andrew: Nant Gwrtheyrn Wedding

In July 2021 I kicked-off quite a busy covid postponed season. This time I headed out to the beautiful coastline near the Llyn peninsula to capture Jinnie and Andrew’s intimate North Wales wedding. This secluded area of the country is very special to them, as they spent many years visiting and even got engaged on a wild day at the Coast Guard watchtower on the Nefyn headland! The adventurous couple love to be by the sea, so Nant Gwrtheyrn was the perfect venue for their intimate wedding of just under 50 people.

Speaking to Jinnie and Andrew about their vision for their wedding, they really wanted a relaxed and fun weekend spent having fun and dancing the night away with their loved ones. And that’s exactly what they got! Nant Gwrtheyrn is a stunning location, but because of its position if the weather is bad…it’s really bad! Luckily, we were blessed with the most beautiful weather for Jinnie and Andrew’s special day; the perfect sunny conditions for this super fun and friendly couple.

On the morning of Jinnie and Andrew’s wedding day there was a relaxed atmosphere, with the groom, groomsmen and some of the guests walking the 5 minutes down to the beach for a refreshing swim. Jinnie, her mum and her bridesmaids got ready in one of Nant Gwrtheyrn’s newly renovated cottages. They got treated by the wonderful Meg Roberts at Blush Beauty and Elin Wyn with makeup and hair. I absolutely loved her beautiful Justin Alexander gown that she fully revealed to her mother and bridesmaids walking down the cottage steps.

Thanks to the idyllic weather the ceremony took place outside. It was a beautiful civil ceremony with the most breathtaking backdrop. It was full of touching details; Andrew’s sister played Sting’s ‘Fields of Gold’ on the piano as Jinnie made her way down the aisle, and best man Tom provided the rings. The vows were emotional and heartfelt, as were the speeches which followed later in the day. In between the guests enjoyed their first drinks and nibbles on the sun deck of the venue which was the place to be to enjoy the perfect temperatures of the day. Andrew took the first speech, telling their love story – from their first holiday together on which they ended up sleeping in their car after their tent collapsed, all the way to planning their intimate North Wales wedding. Andrew’s best friend, childhood friend Tom, gave a funny, jokingly irreverent speech that culminated in a truly heartfelt sentiment. Andrew’s dad Alan spoke about their long tradition of wild, outdoorsy holidays in North Wales and how Jinnie fitted into their ‘slightly mad’ family perfectly. Jinnie’s dad Ian rounded off the wonderful speeches by saying how proud he is of his daughter. I rarely felt that I got to know the couple and their families so well. The whole thing was a joy for me to capture on film and for Jinnie and Andrew to look back on.

After the speeches the guests all gathered on the deck overlooking the coastline, with the band (Elly Grice) creating the most magical atmosphere – it was a truly staggering setting. Jinnie and Andrew’s first dance was choreographed to Natalie Cole’s ‘This Will Be (An Everlasting Love) which kicked of the night with a bang. The evening continued with upbeat Motown tunes for the music-loving group. As promised, the evening was filled with fun – lawn games and dancing late into the night were the headline. The sun set around 10pm and it was the most incredible dusk sky I’ve seen in a long time, with soft pink light glowing around this love-filled summer wedding. This gentle evening light was perfect for Jinnie and Andrew’s second set of couple shots, and together with their photographer Lewys Canton we created some super creative, scenic shots.

It was a perfect day all around and I absolutely love shooting at Nant Gwyrtheyrn. Capturing Jinnie and Andrew’s big day at this beautiful place was truly special.

Head to my Films page to see Jinnie & Andrew’s short film, and please get in touch if you’d like a creative, adventurous wedding film for your celebration. Whether you’re planning a wedding at Nant Gwrtheyrn, or elsewhere in the UK, I can’t wait to hear from you!
